Slovakia will participate in a NATO Air Policing demonstration by NATO Air Forces

An Airbus-321 airliner will conduct a flight over NATO Member States in Europe on Wednesday 12 September 2018 as part of a demonstration of NATO Air Policing. Slovakia will participate in the event with two MiG-29s, which will escort the Airbus-321, carrying 26 journalists from 11 NATO Member States on board, as the airliner flies through Slovak airspace. The event for international media is organised by the NATO Headquarters Allied Air Command Ramstein in collaboration with NATO’s Combined Air Operations Centres (CAOCs) in Torrejón and Uedem.

Minister of Defence Peter Gajdoš said: “Our participation in this NATO activity is a demonstration of the SVK Air Forces capabilities and proves that we are a fully fledged element in the NATO system of safeguarding Allied airspace.

The Airbus-321 airliner will conduct a flight over 12 NATO Member States in Europe. In-flight, it will be escorted by Allied fighter jets, including the SVK Air Force MiG-29s, simulating intercepts and handovers. A total of 24 NATO Quick Reaction Alert (QRA) aircraft will be involved in the activity.

The focus of the media flight is on demonstrating NATO Air Policing and 24/7 QRA operations to media representatives.
