From now on, the WW1 Memorial Plaque unveiled today (7 November) in the village of Hájske by Minister of Defence Peter Gajdoš will memorialise the destinies of 49 local soldiers who perished on the WW1 front.
With the advent of the WW1 Armistice Centenary, Minister of Defence Peter Gajdoš said: “In a few days, exactly 100 years will have passed since the World War One Armistice. It is important for mankind to always keep in mind that peace and freedom are not a matter of course and cost considerable efforts from the international community, all of us, individuals, society, and respective states and their representatives. Iʼm pleased that this WW1 Memorial Plaque will forever memorialise the courage and bravery of local soldiers who fought in the Great War for restoring peace and freedom.”
He further noted that the horrors and suffering both World Wars brought to people carry a message for todayʼs generations as we become more and more persuaded that peace and freedom are the highest values that should never be compromised again.
Because of the approaching WW1 Armistice Centenary, todayʼs ceremonial event included a WW1 act of commemoration.
