Thanks to the initiative of the General M. R. Štefánik Armed Forces Academy in Liptovský Mikuláš, the V4 areas of cooperation will be extended to include professional military education. This was confirmed by the key V4 military education establishments signing the Declaration of Intent Concerning Professional Military Education Enhancement Initiative on 13 November 2018 in Warsaw.
The primary aim of the initiative is to create a common approach of the V4 countries to enhancing the courses on NATO planning and decision-making processes at the operational level as well as the education of future subject matter specialists in this area of expertise through joint coordinated efforts on designing national and international courses in the above specialisation.
The Declaration of Intent extends the V4 areas of cooperation to accommodate professional military education and international exercises for attendees of career courses and international conferences. The first palpable outcome of this cooperation is the design and certification of a new international course – Initial NATO Joint Operations Planning Course – to be taught at the Slovak Armed Forces Academy.
The Declaration of Intent is the outcome of intense cooperation among General M. R. Štefánik Armed Forces Academy in Liptovský Mikuláš, the Art of War Academy in Warsaw, the University of Defence in Brno, and the National University of Public Administration in Budapest, whilst receiving significant support from the Bundeswehrʼs Command and Staff College in Hamburg.
