Interest in joining Armed Forces is growing significantly after launch of recruitment campaign

The new recruitment campaign of the SVK MOD has contributed to a markedly increased interest in active duty service in the Armed Forces. Since its introduction and launch, the number of applications to join the Armed Forces has gone up almost twice, with 1,472 applications received in March and April 2019.

Commenting on the recruitment campaign, Defence Minister Peter Gajdoš said: “The first outcomes show that through the campaign we have managed to reach out to young people as the target group and the interest in joining the Armed Forces has increased significantly.”

To generate more interest of young people in joining the Armed Forces and Voluntary Military Training, over the past few months the MOD has organised a billboard campaign, presentations of videos, and several promotion events. At the events, citizens have obtained basic information on active duty service directly from service personnel. The campaign presents the benefits of serving in the Slovak Armed Forces, including the gradually improving terms and conditions of active duty service, among them the planned increase in military pay.

When compared against the same period last year, the interest in joining the Armed Forces has increased, too. From January to May 2018, 1,515 candidates, of whom 400 were women, expressed an interest in joining the Armed Forces. Similarly, 2,378 candidates (503 women) have submitted their applications since the beginning of 2019.
