The NATO Centres of Excellence (COEs) are staging a presentation of their aims and tasks at NATO Headquarters in Brussels on 15-16 July 2019. Among the 25 NATO-accredited centres being presented is also the NATO Explosive Ordnance Disposal Centre of Excellence (NATO EOD COE), based in Trenčín, Slovakia. It was accredited in 2011 and is today staffed by subject matter experts from Slovakia, Czechia, France, Hungary and Romania as contributing nations.
The main mission of the NATO EOD COE Trenčín is to augment NATO’s military capabilities and the Alliance’s effectiveness in the field of EOD, delivering standardization, doctrine development and concept validation in this specific field in which the Slovak Armed Forces have a wealth of expertise. The Centre is mainly geared towards supporting and enhancing NATO transformation and operational efforts in this functional area, as well as fostering relations, interoperability and practical cooperation with Allies, partners and NATO command structures. In doing so, it applies the latest trends in developing training capacities to prepare technologically advanced, interoperable and adequately trained EOD specialists capable of operating in a wide spectrum of NATO operations.
The NATO COEs are among the key instruments of Allied Command Transformation (ACT) specialising in training NATO and Partner subject matter experts. As part of the promotion event today and tomorrow, representatives of the COEs have an opportunity to present their aims and tasks, with a focus on particular areas of their activity.
