Members of the SVK Army have installed a replacement bridge at the site of the washed-away bridge in Zubné, restoring traffic between both parts of the village. The SVK Army bridge will remain in place as long as needed.
On domestic crisis management (DCM) operations, Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď said: “Our soldiers do an amazing job as part of domestic crisis management. They demonstrate they are ready to assist wherever needed. Just as the residents of Zubné have expressed their gratitude to them, they deserve our sincere thank you for their commitment.”
The head of the MOD also extended his thanks to all participating elements and agencies for their swift coordination of the relief effort, thanks to which the MT-55A tank-launched bridge and deck were transported to the village of Zubné shortly after the floods. “A truly sincere thank you to the Slovak Roads Authority and Slovak Railways and a special thank you to Transport and Construction Minister Andrej Doležal. This is what cooperation between members of the Cabinet should look like when we provide concrete and rapid assistance to those citizens who find themselves in need,” said Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď. He added that the transportation of the bridge system was difficult, especially when you consider it weighed 70 tonnes and had to be moved across difficult terrain.
Soldiers have also been deployed to the village of Pichne, which has been severely hit by heavy torrential rains in recent days. 23 SVK Army members are cleaning up the village’s stream and reinforcing its banks. They will also continue to support requests for assistance from the village mayor in the coming days.
