The Ministry of Defence has issued warnings to members of the public that there is a temporary ban on entering military woodlands in the Military Districts Záhorie and Valaškovce, because they are on high alert for the risk of fire with effect from 25 June 2021. The risk of wildfires increases with high temperatures and dry weather. Two wildfires have been reported recently. Members of the public are asked to respect the temporary ban.
Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď said: “Military woodlands are often used for recreational and hiking purposes. That is why I would like to appeal to the public not to walk in the given areas during the ban, because our aim is not only to protect the woodlands, but especially the lives and health of our citizens.“
The violation of this ban is deemed an offence punishable with a fine of up to €3,320. The ban does not apply to forest land managers, members of the Forest Guard, members of the Hunting Guard, members of the Nature Guard, members of the Hunters Association, civil servants and members of the Integrated Rescue System.
