Defence cooperation between Slovakia and the Republic of Indonesia can continue to grow thanks to the SVK-IDN relationship with common positions on international themes and with no questions left open, Deputy Defence Minister Marian Majer confirmed this after meeting a 7-strong Indonesian Parliamentary Delegation – led by Dr Fadli Zon, Chairperson of the Committee for Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation and Member of the Committee on Defence, Foreign Affairs and Information of the Indonesian House of Representatives. The delegation was accompanied by Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Slovakia His Excellency Mr Pribadi Sutiono.
Speaking after the meeting with the Indonesian Parliamentarians, Deputy Defence Minister Marian Majer said: “We are interested in strengthening our bilateral dialogue and we appreciate Indonesiaʼs active contribution to expanding the areas of our cooperation in general – and especially those in the field of defence.”
To remain true to this, both sides are planning to declare their intent in a formal agreement between the SVK and IDN Ministries of Defence. Work on the official document is already underway. The accord is expected to be signed at the earliest possible and suitable opportunity.
In discussing possible future avenues of defence cooperation with the visiting Indonesian Parliamentary Delegation, Mr Majer offered up the options for the use of the Training Centre Lešť in Slovakia. This could provide high quality training for different types of Indonesian forces, whether it be military, police or rescue service units. Similarly, he also presented the unique capabilities of the CBRN Defence Training Centre Zemianske Kostoľany, which is tasked with delivering specialist training with live chemical warfare agents (CWA). On business opportunities, he pointed out that several Slovak companies have a keen interest in entering the Indonesian market.
