In memory of 9 November, Defence Minister Naď said: Extremism and hatred in any of their forms are a danger to society

9 November is observed as International Day Against Fascism and Antisemitism – a commemoration of the immense suffering of the Jewish people during the November 1938 Pogrom, dubbed as “Kristallnacht”, or the Night of the Broken Glass.

Remembering the occasion, Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď said: “These tragic pages of history make an appeal to us never to forget that extremism and hatred in any of their forms are a danger to society. Rather than standing aside indifferently in the face of this very serious threat, we must stand up and denounce such actions in the very bud and on first indication.”

The Ministry of Defence has a zero-tolerance policy towards racism, xenophobia, antisemitism, fascism, or any signs of hatred. In the long run, measures have been put in place to prevent those who seek to cause harm to others. “We have been closely following and reviewing any activity of Slovak Armed Forces service members that may lead to hateful extremist actions. With our zero tolerance to such behaviour, we have been cleansing Defence of any expressions of extremism whatsoever,” Director of the SVK Military Police Col Valentín Cebo said.
