During a ceremony at the Lešť Training Centre today, President of the Republic of Slovenia Borut Pahor recognised service personnel of 51 Wing Prešov for their firefighting effort, helping to put out a huge wildfire in Slovenia earlier this July. President Pahor presented a Letter of Thank You to seven Slovak service personnel, in the presence of President Zuzana Čaputová and State Secretary Marian Majer.
On behalf of the SVK Ministry of Defence, State Secretary Marian Majer was highly appreciative of the gesture of thanks extended to Slovak soldiers, saying: “Having the chance to rely on assistance from allies is a bedrock of trust. We provide each other with all necessary capabilities, forces and assets, because thatʼs what collective defence is about. The deployment of our soldiers to Slovenia and, vice versa, the presence of Slovenian troops in Slovakia as part of the NATO Multinational Battlegroup is a leading example of effective cooperation.”
As part of the official presidential trip to meet 93 members of the Slovenian Mechanised Company integrated into the NATO Multinational Battlegroup Slovakia (NATO MN BG SVK), both Heads of State and their delegations attended a briefing by Commanding Officer of the Battlegroup Col Ladislav Bujárek and received a tour of the accommodation facilities at the Lešť Training Centre.
