To mark tomorrow's Veterans Day, also known as Remembrance Day in the Commonwealth of Nations, Secretary General of the MOD Service Office Peter Kozák paid tribute to the heroes who fought on the battlefields of Western Europe, Northern Africa and the Middle East during a commemorative ceremony, at the WW2 Western Resistance Fighters Memorial in Bratislava's Šafárik Square. Also in attendance was British Ambassador Nigel Baker. The event was co-organised by the Slovak Ministry of Defence and the British Embassy.
Speaking in front of the audience, Secretary General of the MOD Service Office Peter Kozák said: “Let us not only remember their immense valour and courage, but also the fact that the security, stability and lasting peace they fought for in Europe is also dependent on our willingness to wage a constant struggle for the values for which they shed their blood and died. We honour their memory!”
As part of the MOD's programme of activities to promote Veterans Day on 11 November, Slovak service personnel will hand out red poppies as a symbol of the day across Slovakia's cities. Additionally, red poppies will be projected onto Bratislava Castle in respect and recognition of all veterans and war dead.
